When it comes to furnishing a flat, it can be overwhelming, especially if the flat is small and you’re working with a limited budget. But you don’t have to sacrifice style and functionality just because you’re on a budget. With a little bit of planning and the right functional products, you can create a comfortable and inviting living space that meets your needs. In this blog, we’ll go room by room and provide you with a first home checklist living essentials. (Download the list)
Living room furniture list
The living room is where you’ll spend a lot of your time, so it’s essential to create a comfortable and inviting space. Here’s a checklist of the living essentials that you’ll need in your living room:
Essential:
- Sofa or loveseat: Look for a comfortable sofa or loveseat that fits your style and budget. It’s worth investing in a reasonably good quality piece, as replacing it can be costly. Opting for a neutral color, such as gray, will give you the freedom to change your decor without needing to swap out your seating. If you move frequently, it’s best to avoid purchasing an overly large sofa.
- Coffee table: A coffee table is a functional and stylish addition to any living room.
- Vacuum cleaner: Not sure where to put this one, but it is absolutely essential!
Good to have:
- TV: Many people these days choose not to have a TV, so it doesn’t seem like an essential piece of furniture.
- TV stand: If you are planning to have a television in your living room, a TV stand may be necessary. Alternatively, you could also choose to mount your TV on the wall.
- Accent chairs: Add extra seating and style to your living room with a pair of accent chairs.
- Rug: Having a rug in a living room can enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the space while also providing a cozy and comfortable surface for lounging and entertaining.
- Shelves: Shelves can help keep the space organized and provide a place to display and store items such as books, decorative objects, and electronics.
Kitchen furniture list
Your kitchen may not require as much furniture as your living room or bedroom, but there are a few essential items you’ll need:
Essential:
- Table and chairs: If you have space, a small table and chairs can create a cozy dining area.
- Storage: Look for affordable storage solutions, such as a kitchen cart or shelves, to keep your kitchen organized.
- Bar stools: If you have a kitchen island or breakfast bar, consider adding a few bar stools for extra seating. An island can serve as a dining area as well, provided that there are enough chairs and an overhang to offer guests comfort while seated.
- kitchen essential set: A kitchen essential set, also known as a starter kit, provides a convenient way to acquire the necessary tools and utensils without breaking the bank. In my other post, ‘Essential in Kitchen: Cooking Equipment List,’ I delve deeper into what you should consider when selecting a starter kit.
