Do you also love the beauty of Pachira Aquatica, commonly known as the Money Tree plant?! With its unique braided trunk and vibrant green foliage, this popular houseplant is not only aesthetically pleasing but also believed to bring good luck and prosperity (only when you receive it as a gift!). In this blog post, we’ll explore essential care tips to ensure your Money Tree thrives and becomes a delightful addition to your home.
Selecting the Perfect Spot:
- Bright, indirect light for healthy growth.
- Avoid harsh sunlight or deep shade.
- Ideal temperature range: 65°F to 75°F.
Watering Wisely:
- Allow soil to dry between waterings.
- Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
- Use a well-draining potting mix.
- Overwatering and underwatering can lead to leaf loss.
- Bottom watering is best practice but make sure to also give water over the soil every now and then to wash away salts and other minerals from the soil.
Received a weak Money Tree from a colleague, and my journey to nurture it began. With just a few leaves, I knew it needed extra care. I decided to repot it into a bigger home, using good quality compost.
Watering was tricky at first, but I discovered the trick: filling the pot tray instead of pouring water directly onto the soil. I gathered moss from nearby trees, creating a cosy and humid environment.
Now, it’s growing fast. Sure, it occasionally loses some leaves as I turn it to encourage all-around development, but that’s just a natural part of its growth journey. I hope my personal experience helps you as well!
Nurturing Humidity Levels:
- Moderate humidity suits the Money Tree.
- Mist leaves occasionally for added moisture.
Fertilization Facts:
- Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
- Apply during the growing season (spring and summer).
Pruning Pointers:
- Trim leggy growth to encourage bushiness.
- Remove dead or yellowing leaves promptly.
Repotting Routine:
- Repot every 2-3 years to avoid root-bound.
- Choose a slightly larger container.
